Biography

Thomas L. Engel, M.D. was born in Saginaw, Michigan on Christmas Day in 1950. He graduated cum laude from the University of Michigan Medical School in 1976. He completed his Internship in Internal Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco General Hospital in 1977, his Residency in General Surgery at St. Mary's Hospital in San Francisco, and his Residency in Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery from University of California, San Francisco in 1983. Dr. Engel is currently on active staff of the California Pacific Medical Center where he is Chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology and is Associate Clinical Professor of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Engel's special interest in public service includes participation in humanitarian trips to Hospital de la Familia, Nuevo Progresso, Guatemala, and service in the Guardsmen, helping at-risk youth in the Bay Area. He has been named several times in the San Francisco Magazine's "Top Doctors". Dr. Engel is currently a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology -Head and Neck Surgery (Fellow), the California Medical Association, the San Francisco Medical Society and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
